University Social Responsibility Project -
Transitions toward Sustainability and Revitalization: The Glocalization Practice of the City as a Commuseum.
Building on the challenges and the past projects on the "Climate Crisis" and "Net-Zero Transition," the current project focuses on the multiple challenges faced by industrial port cities and their urban-rural communities in the journey towards sustainable transformation.Incorporating sustainable DNA, the project team integrates three sustainable dimensions: "circular and sustainable environments," "deeply rooted local cultures," and "fair and inclusive societies." The project explores how the collaborating sites may undergo transformation and revitalization, develop urban and societal resilience, and move towards "Glocalization." Through this process, the project team aims to cultivate globally mobile talents with local concerns and global perspectives, contributing to the realization of sustainable urban and rural development in alignment with UN’s SDGs, including responsible consumption and production, climate action, quality education, and partnerships for the goals.
Our methods
Focusing on sustainability issues, the project targets the transformation of urban-rural areas in industrial port cities. Through social surveys to assess local issues, the project employs a Community-Based Learning (CBL) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) teaching model. This approach connects talent cultivation mechanisms/scholarships with the development of international revitalization exchange and internship systems, deepening the joint cultivation of transnational practitioners in global-local, sustainable actiontransfer, and just transitions.
1. Circular actions for environmental sustainability and just transitions.
2. Local wisdom and climate adaptation for cultural sustainability.
3. Net-zero carbon sink and inclusive food education for social sustainability.
4. Promoting international connections, value exchange, and talent cultivation.
5. Seeing and being seen: a human-centered, regional circular symbiosis.
